Where to stay in Madrid with a small balcony

Hi all. I need to find a hotel room/apartment for 4 nights in Madrid in January. I'd like to have a balcony overlooking a square or a view of some sort, or at least large windows that open since I tend to go hard all day, then enjoy spending time back in my room in the evening. I'm traveling solo, so it doesn't need to be a big room, although having a microwave and refrigerator would be nice since I like to have some leftovers or snacks/light foods on hand and I NEED coffee as soon as I wake up (I'd rather have a hot cup of instant coffee immediately than excellent coffee an hour after I awaken). It would be nice if it was relatively easy to get to the touristy area of Madrid either by walking or by metro, but it doesn't necessarily need to be in the middle of everything.

I've looked at so many hotels/hostels/Airbnb/VRBO options that they've all blended together at this point, so I'm hoping someone can suggest a place they're familiar with that might work since I need help narrowing down my options. I'm hoping to stay in a budget of 100-120 a night, but I'm willing to consider more if it's a really good fit for me, and of course less is better too!

I've found lovely places to stay in Cordoba, Granada, Malaga and Seville, thank goodness!

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

OP….have not yet been to Spain so unhelpful regarding your query regarding a room with a balcony. However, as a soul who also desires a coffee when I arise might I suggest you invest in a small coffee brew cone that fits over a coffee mug. Buy some small paper coffee filters and take some of your own ground coffee. I’ve done this for years. If there’s no mug supplied in room. I’d visit a thrift shop.

Believe Mileta has a one cup cone. Pretty sure there are others. Just a thought.

We stayed at Hotel Europa on Puerta del Sol. Our room had windows we could open to watch the activity on the large square. Not a balcony but could be an option

Thank you for the replies. I actually asked this same question on another forum and a member there (I think she used to be on this site, but I haven't seen her name in a while) suggested using booking.com to filter for my needs. I then cross referenced that with my credit card portal until I found one that matched up and was able to use a travel credit and points to cover the cost, so yeah!

Claudia, the room doesn't have a coffee maker, but your idea got me thinking, so I might order a travel size water kettle off Amazon to take with me just in case.

Now to start planning the fun stuff. Thanks everyone!

I have a small, beautiful hotel for you with an amazing view! There’s floor-to-ceiling large glass doors to open & enjoy the view that’s even prettier at night! We have stayed there twice. It has the instant coffee/tea in the hotel room. It’s very close to the opera house to catch the metro.

From my Feb. 2025 trip report:
”Our hotel in Madrid was a repeat of a special memory. We stayed at Hostal Central Palace Madrid in 2017 with the spectacular day & evening view overlooking the Palace Reale & Oriente park! The front desk clerk welcomed us and specifically mentioned that we had stayed here previously. I reserved their nicest room for those views, and it is beautifully decorated. They gave us the room next to our previous one - this one slightly larger and such a perfect location to relax anytime, especially with the palace illuminated in the evening. I always enjoy a spot where we can hear the happy voices of kids & adults; here it’s in the Plaza de Oriente garden. Previously, a lovely breakfast at the Café de Oriente next door was included when booked directly with the hotel. Now the Café only serves lunch & dinner, so we stopped at nearby places for an inexpensive breakfast.”

Hi Kathy. I ended up booking the Hostal Met Madrid. I got a room with a small balcony. I've read some reports that say they do have coffee makers in the room and others that say they don't, so I'm not sure how that will turn out, but it looks like it's in a good area and it had plenty of good reviews.

Isn't it exciting to get to visit Spain? I can't wait!
