Where to stay in Alicante or Malaga?

My friends and I want to go to either Alicante or Malaga. We will be going in early Oct. We want somewhere close to good nightlife with lots of bars and restaurants and preferably not too far a walk from a beach.

What area of Alicante or Malaga would you recommend we stay?

There’s a lot more to do in Malaga so I’d recommend going there over Alicante. Stay anywhere in the city that’s reasonably central. It should be pretty warm and sunny in October.

Malaga is a lively city with plenty of bars but if you’re looking for a full on party destination then it’s not that. Maybe Marbella?

Thank you for your reply. I wouldn't say we want a full-on party experience but I also wouldn't rule it out lol.

We went to Albufeira in Portugal last year. What we liked about it was our accommodation was only a very short walk from the nightlife, there were plenty of bars and restaurants, the food was good in all the restaurants we went to, and it wasn't like Benidorm, Magaluf, Kavos, etc.

We do want somewhere with good nightlife and lots of bars but not somewhere with young kids getting way too drunk and making a fool of themselves.

Malaga is different because it’s a real working city whereas Albufeira is mainly a tourist resort and it’s set up for that market. I think you’d have fun in Malaga.
