Where to spend 5 days in Spain

Hello,

Thank you in advance for taking time to respond to my post.

I will be going on the RS Heart of Portugal tour in June 2025. I would like to spend 5 days in Spain after the tour ends. I love history, so I love museums, castles, etc. I also love architecture, gardens, and good food. Wondering where you would recommend I go for 5 days. I will be traveling on my own after the tour so someplace that would be safe for a solo traveler who doesn't speak any Spanish (I will have to learn some before I go!) My guess is I will need to fly home from Madrid, but I have to look into that yet.

Thank you, Cindy.

Cindy, make Madrid your home base. Take a day trip by bus or train to Segovia, and another one to Toledo. If you wanted to stay one or more nights in either of those towns, then that works, too.

I second what Cyn said, especially if you will flying home from Madrid.

I agree also. Avila is another interesting town close to Segovia.

If you used Segovia as a base, there are a number of impressive castles in the area including, Coca, Peñafiel, Cuellar, Mota (in Medina Del Campo), Portillo, Pedraza, and Arévalo. Outside of Madrid is Castle Manzanares el Real.

Also near Segovia is Royal Palace of La Granja of San Ildefonso. The palace and gardens and worth walking around in season when the fountains are turned on and when flowers are in bloom. Ávila is good for a couple hours, but if you’re a Teresa of Ávila fan, she is interred in Alba de Tormes in the Convento y Basílica de la Anunciación, MM Carmelitas. Alba de Tormes is outside of Salamanca.

So many places, so little time.
