Where to find Ricks book in Madrid?

Alas I left my Madrid guidebook on the train from Sevilla. Anyone know if there is a place to buy one near Puerta del Sol?

From the Puerta del Sol, headed up the Calle Mayor towards the Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor (about a 3 minutes walk and right before you’d turn for Chocolateria Gines) there should be a book store on the right side of the street, Liberia Mendez. Not certain if they have Rick’s books there, but they may know where it is sold.

There’s another book store, Libreria Mujeres, on Calle de Esparteros. From the Puerta del Sol on Calle Mayor, turn left at the McDonalds (pretty much righ at the end of the Puerta del sol, onto Calle de Espartos and head towards the Plaza Mayor. It should be on the right, right where you’d turn for the Plaza Mayor. Again, no idea if they sell his books.

There’s a travel bookstore, Altair, at Calle Gaztambide 31, but it isn’t near the Puerta del Sol.

You should also be able to buy the ebook version on Amazon, which might be workable if you're traveling with a laptop or tablet. Not sure I'd want to try reading a guidebook on a phone.

I would buy the ebook version rather than spend time on a bookstore search.

If you are staying in a hotel he mentions in the book you may find a stack of them in a bookcase or on a table in the lobby. I was sitting in a hotel lobby in Paris recently waiting for a taxi and cracked up because there must have been 30 RS guide books - France, Paris and the small Paris one stacked in a book case I had not previously noted!

In the Rick Steves Spain book itself, he lists the following stores as carrying English-language books:

FNAC Callao, at Calle Preciados 28
Casa del Libro, at Gran Via 29
El Corte Englés, "in the Libreria branch kitty-corner from the main store, fronting Puerta del Sol"

This last listing is right on the Puerta del Sol, and the others aren't too far away.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I've asked at a couple of bookstores and no luck. I decided it's one of this things that happens and to just go with the flow. We're mostly visiting art museums so no problema!

Rick Steves is virtually unheard of outside of the US market. I only came to this site after reading constant reference to him on a Timeshare site frequented by many Americans. I ended up Googling him and stumbled upon this site (and now I can't leave!).

I don't know anyone who has heard of him, most non Americans are more familiar with Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Fodor's etc so I would be surprised if there are many stores outside the US that stock his books.
