Going on a food tour to the above cities and want to know what are the best other cities to see before the tour ? Will have 4 days & 3 nights.
Does anyone know of a reputable driver or is there a train to take? Thank you so much!
La Rioja covers a large area. I’ll suggest Logroño. Its Calle Del Laurel and Calle de San Juan are known for their tapas establishments. It’s also a good transportation hub if you wanted to take day trips. We spent time in La Rioja in May and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We did have a rental car.
For general tourist purposes I especially liked Laguardia (small hilltown), Vitoria-Gasteiz (capital of the Basque province of Alava, with hilly historic district) and Hondarribia (fishermen's houses along the waterfront and an old historic center up the hill).
Well, if you are asking for other places to visit before your tour...not a very original suggestion here, but how about Madrid? You will probably land there anyway, and it is perfect for 3 nights.
From Madrid, you can take the train to Bilbao.
Or if you prefer smaller places, still assuming that you land in Madrid, you could head straight to Segovia for 2 days (including time for a day trip to Avila), then Burgos for 1 day.
If you land in Bilbao and cannot change that, then the suggestions you already have look very good to me.
The food tour sounds intriguing. Can you share about that?
