What area of Barcelona to stay

My wife and I are spending three nights and four days in Barcelona.
My question is, which area of the city do we want to position ourselves: We plan on visiting the popular attractions and we know that there is so much to cover when it comes to great food, cultural experience and historical sites, but are not sure where the optimal location should be for those 3 nights.

thanks! Carl

I'd recommend the Eixample neighborhood. It's close to most sites and doesn't seem as crowded as the Gothic Quarter. We stayed at the H10 Urquinaona right across from the Urquinaona metro and loved the location. Grocery stores and bakeries nearby and a 10-15 minute walk or so to the Gothic Quarter, and close to the Metro, which is wonderful.

We loved el Born. I'd call it a neighborhood but Enric will yell at me again! Great central location by the Picasso museum. Lots of restaurants and pedestrian only streets. Atmospheric.

We really liked our location a couple blocks from Placa de Catalunya. Many of the things we wanted to see were easy walking distance--Casa Mila and the block of discord, Cathedral and the Gothic quarter, Ramblas, Palua de musica. Other places like Park Guell, airport, Barceloneta, Sagrada Familia were an easy metro/bus ride with no transfers.

We too enjoyed our stay in the Eixample - walked to everything except for Park Guell. The Eixample with its wide streets and sidewalks just didn't feel as crowded as some of the other areas in Barcelona. We stayed at the U232 in October 2017 and would definitely stay there again if Fortuna brings us back to Barcelona.
