What are your best Barcelona insider tips and tricks?

I’m hoping you will share some insider tips not necessarily found in guidebooks, but known by locals. For instance, while in Paris, I learned that the view from the Montparnasse Tower provides an astonishing view of the city. A local told me that instead of buying a 17 € ticket for the observation deck, I could instead take the elevator to the cocktail bar - Le Ciel de Paris – one floor removed from the observation deck for free! For the cost of an expensive beer, I had an even better view of the City of Lights. In Firenze, a local clued me in about the view of the Duomo from the terrace cocktail bar at the top of La Rinascente department store.

So what tips are you willing to share about Barcelona? Is there a secret place to sit to watch the Magic Fountain light show? Is there a terrace bar somewhere with a good view? This will be my first visit to Barcelona so maybe you have even more ideas. I promise I won’t tell!!

In a city where many, many of the top sights pretty much require pre-purchase of tickets to avoid very long ticket lines, there is one very fine option to which you can usually simply walk up: the Sant Pau modernista site. The website doesn't really do it justice. There are multiple buildings with lovely interiors as well as very nice grounds. It's fairly near La Sagrada Familia. It's a multi-hour destination.

Go and have lunch at the cafeteria at the Corte Ingles dept. Store on Playa Catalunya, 9th floor I think. It has been refurbished and has 360 vue of Barcelona. The food is not bad either. Enjoy!
