Week in Barcelona Itinerary- Comments please :)

We are spending a week in Barcelona Mid May. Below is a draft itinerary somewhat dictated by tours and concerts I could reserve. This is for my husband and I as first time visitors to Barcelona. I have booked the context tours and the Artickets. Going to reserve the concert for Friday night at the music hall as well as Parc Guell, and La Padrera evening experience.

Thanks in advance! Too much? Any museums to add or delete? MNAC and Miro look amazing.

Any advice on where to eat or grab a meal in between appreciated! Any restaurants or tapas places "a must do"

This looks like a good mix with a variety of activities.

Saturday: There's nothing special about Las Ramblas, but it's unavoidable. La Boqueria is good for grab-and-go food, but you'll pay premium prices. There's at least one stand selling cups of cut-up fruit, which I enjoyed as part of my breakfast several times. There's also a regular supermarket in that area; it's not far from Placa Catalunya on the right side of the street as you face toward the port. It's on two levels. The store is often packed (maybe less so on Saturdays), but the line generally moves fast.

Monday lunch may have to be at a casual spot (or just tapas) since you need to meet your LSF tour at 2:30 PM. Lunch is quite late in Spain, and you may not be able to sit down to a full restaurant meal as early as noon or 12:30. 2 PM seemed to be a common starting time for lunch.

You won't have time for Sant Pau on Monday. It closes at 6:30 PM, and your La Sagrada Familia tour ends at 5:30. Sant Pau is a complex of multiple buildings with attractive grounds. I had two hours and ran out of time; they've opened an additional exhibition area since my 2016 visit. Perhaps you could see it on Sunday before La Pedrera.

Tuesday: I assume you're going to Figueres for the Dali Museum. I believe you'll need to pre-purchase a timed ticket. Trying to see Figueres and Girona on the same day while staying in Barcelona is aggressive even when the flower festival isn't going on. Many people do it, however. Round-trip tickets on Renfe are often about the same price as one-way tickets, so spend a bit of time figuring out how to manage the ticketing for this 2-stop day. You'll probably save quite a bit of money if you buy now rather than after arriving in Barcelona, but if you buy super-cheap fast-train tickets, they'll be non-refundable and non-changeable.

Wednesday: MNAC is quite large, so I suggest you visit the website ahead of time and figure out which sections are most of interest so you can be sure to have time for them. I highly recommend the modernisme collection (jewelry, furniture, decorative arts) and the huge installation of frescoes rescued from churches in the Pyrenees. The Miro is much smaller, but it is by no means tiny itself.

Thursday: Montserrat doesn't require pre-booking, so it would be good to keep Thursday and Friday open in case weather becomes an issue--though I don't think that's too likely in May.

I have no restaurant suggestions to offer, but others will have ideas for you. Where is your hotel?

At the top of Las Ramblas on Plaza de Catalonia, there's an El Cortes department store with a big supermarket. You'll get every thing you need for the apartment there and at better prices than La Boqueria.

Sunday - I suspect that's a better day to catch some Sardana dancers in front of the Cathedral. BTW City Hall is open to the public on Sunday mornings and is free - beautiful interiors, well worth popping in for an hour. Check this website for castellers. If you're lucky there'll be one or more groups in Barcelona while you're there.

Wednesday - why not hang around Montjuic and see the Magic Fountain that evening? You can go down to Plaza Espana for tapas if you need to kill time before the sound and light show begins.

David

Thank you! I will enquire whether we can move our tapas tour with Context. What time after Montserrat could we be available for a tour on Wednesday? Montserrat looks like a very full day potentially

Maybe head to El Born then Sunday after your Tapas Tour, and explore Bari Gotico at leisure on Friday. You really should spend the most part of a day in the Bari Gotico.

I’ve sent you a private message.

Chani, thanks so much for posting that link. The Castellers will be performing in Barcelona during our visit this spring and I never would have thought to check if not for you. What fun!

If you can, find some time for Barceloneta, Maremagnum, and the beaches north of there. Perhaps Sunday afternoon?
