So this was not planned but we just learned that we will be in Barcelona during the La Mercè festival(Sept 24).
Wondering what to expect? Where in Barcelona does the festival occur, especially any parades?

I remember most of it being in the old part of town near the cathedral and Plaça Sant Jaume. You can look up last year’s schedule for specific locations.
It will be crowded in the areas where the events are taking place. When we watched the Castellers it was wall to wall people, literally, in Plaça Sant Jaume. It was difficult to even turn around, let alone enter or leave the plaza. For the Carrefoc (fire run) portion, the sidewalks were crowded along the streets it went on. Layer year, Passeig de Gràcia to Consell de Cent.
Overall, it was a lot of fun, but it is a pickpockets dream. Leave anything you don’t want to lose in the hotel.
