I will be going to Rome for the first time next month and would like to start off the trip on a guided walking tour. I am not looking for a private tour, I would rather be with a group.

There are a number of tour operators that operate on tips. They also have other tours available if you enjoy your trip.
We often take free walking tours when we first hit large European cities. If they have a nightlife tour or a pub crawl tour, we also take that at night. It's a way to have a great time, and find all the off the beaten path inexpensive restaurants and lively places to go.
