Is it recommended to do both a walking tour of Barcelona and a tapas tour? Or can they be combined?
Barcelona is a great city where you can walk by yourself and enjoy the sites. By all means, make sure you see the Sagada Familia Church (still not completed) of Gaudi; walk by the Block of Discord; and to combine tapas and walking - walk any afternoon or evening along La Rambla. There are literally hundreds of interesting tapas restaurants where you can sit and enjoy the food as well as seeing the people of Barcelona.
I have found food tours to be a terrific and fun way to spend my first evening in a new city. I get a feeling for the culture and food of the city from the guide. This is the one I did in Barcelona, and I highly recommend it:

Think of them separately and Liz has a terrific recommendation. Do an Internet search and you’ll find others as well. But the tapas tours gets you away from the madhouse that is Las Ramblas where, other than the Bouqueria, you are likely to get less than wonderful food at a counter that is 4 deep. Meanwhile you are being scoped out by the most skilled pickpockets in Europe. Instead you’ll go to smaller places, places where the guide knows the proprietor, have a real taste of Barcelona. Barcelona has lots to see. If I had one place to return to it would be the Sagrada Familia. Yes, you’ll share it with a thousand of your newest friends, but it’s not to be missed.
