We will be flying from Barcelona to Granada on Vueling. The baggage allowances on their website are confusing. My ticket includes one checked bag per person and one under seat bag per person. If the bag won’t fit under the seat, can I put it in the overhead compartment?

I have the Optima fare, which includes an underseat bag, seat selection, and one checked bag. My question is: If my underseat bag won’t fit under the seat, can I just put it in the overhead bin? OR will I have to check the non-fitting underseat bag at the gate?

No -- they mean it!!!! An underseat bag is under the seat in the foot area. About a briefcase size or small book bag.

If your bag is within the dimensions provided, it will fit under the seat. They define under seat as 40cm x 20cm x 30cm. They won’t allow you to carry on a larger bag if your fare class only allows an underseat bag.
Many of the discount airlines like Vueling make a distinction between carry-on that goes in the overhead and carry-on that goes under the seat and charge different rates.
