We're planning a trip from Barcelona to Granada to see the Alhambra. Vueling has a bunch of flights but not a good reputation. Reviews mention delays and cancellations?? Has anyone taken them from Barcelona to Granada? An alternative is Ryan Air but they only go to Seville. Is one better than the other? Thanks!
This question comes up a lot on the forum, you'll be fine with Vueling, it's a local Spanish airline that basically is the most popular for domestic flights. I've flown with them many times and have had no issues.
I have flown Vueling without any issues. In fact, I’m looking to book the same flight as you!
Vueling is owned by the same parent company as British Airways, Aer Lingus and Iberia.
Don't be fooled by the 2 people who said they'd never had issues with Vueling. They're the exception; far from the rule. There are many reasons why other travel sites give Vueling an aggregate of 1.2 rating (out of 5, with 5 being the best). My own experience with them was dreadful, and more like the ones on closed threads on Rick Steves' site where people report negative interactions. My wife and I paid for more expensive checked bags in the hold though there was plenty of cabin baggage space, then was double-charged (and paid the penalty at that!). Then the gate agent told us we could file for a refund, which of course was a lie as was quickly evident when dealing with their customer service employees, who were unwilling to let us talk to a supervisor and instead seemed bent on extracting as much money as possible. My suggestion: Avoid this low-cost carrier. You won’t regret spending a little more for better service.
Thanks for your feedback but what a horror for you! We ended up flying Ryan Air from Barcelona to Sevilla and then taking the bus to Granada and reversing the trip to return. Everything went well. Can recommend.
I took Vueling on Barcelona/Palma and I’d advise against flying on them. The cheap fare is not worth the aggravation. My main issues were about being double-charged for baggage in the hold (plenty of cabin space for carry-ons) and their terrible customer service. Fly them at your own risk; I won’t be taking them again. I’ve flown Ryanair and would choose them in a heartbeat over Vueling.
Glad that Ryanair worked out well for you! They also have a spotty reputation and lots of bad reviews, but our flight last spring from England to Sardinia was surprisingly pleasant.
The one Vueling flight, with a great price, was over 20 years ago. Two little kids behind us kept kicking the seats -hard- the entire flight. It turned out that the parents weren’t on the flight, and had entrusted the children to the flight crew. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.
I have a question regarding carry on restrictions on Vueling Air. Vueling carry-on luggage size is 21.7x15.7x7.8 inches. Does anyone know how strictly their guidelines are followed?
We've ordered luggage from Ricksteves.com & the depth is 9 inches. Will we have a problem with carrying it on?
We flew Vueling last summer from Milan to Barcelona. I really liked them. My wife and I had the exit row to ourselves and the middle seat was empty. They deboard about 3-5 rows at a time and they made an announcement before we landed they do this and said all other rows need to remain seated before they begin the deboarding process. When we landed there were a few people in the middle rows that stood up and they made another announcement that they would not start the decorating process until Everyone was seated. I really liked how they handled this and service during the flight was great. They only issue we had was they lost my wife's checked luggage ( but not mine even though we checked them in together). She called or emailed after she talked with someone at the airport and a few days later they located her bag and sent it to our home back here in the states I believe our last night in Barcelona. Yes it was a pain for us/her to go shopping for new clothes, toiletries, etc. but I suppose any airlines has and could lose lugguage. That's our experience with Vueling.
We flew Vueling once and will never do that again. They charged a small fortune for the bags. The smallest US carryon bag is too big and has to be checked.
