Vueling Air

We are flying from Sevilla to Barcelona on Vueling Air. I am hearing conflicting advice on carry on bags. Is the RS wheeled bag the right size? I looked at the Spanish site, and found size and weight for "maleta" and a size for a "bolsa" which is very small (14"X8"x8") . I think RS size carry on is OK if not expanded. Has anyone had experience flying with Vueling? Thanks for your help!

From the Vueling website:

"You can carry one piece of hand luggage no heavier than 10 kg and no larger than 55x45x20 cm.

"You can also carry another smaller bag or case measuring no more than 35x20x20 cm and one additional bag containing any purchases made at the airport. They must both fit under the front seat."

Ten kg. is 22 lb. Be careful about the weight as well as the size. Converting those maximum sizes to inches and rounding down to the next hundredth of an inch, I get 21.65" x 17.71" x 7.87" and 13.77" x 7.87" x 7.87". You have rounded up, and I think that is very risky. Remember that the measurements include wheels and handles. There may well be sizing boxes into which each bag must fit.

If you don't want to waste money, it's essential that you know your suitcase and purse/tote are OK. Don't just think they are OK, because the fee to check the first bag at the airport is 35 euros, whereas it costs only 13 euros if you pay for that service ahead of time. Those costs sound much more reasonable that what I've heard for some other budget airlines.

So the answer is that you need to measure the RS bag (and your tote, etc.) yourself after it is packed to be sure it is OK. Even if the technical specs are OK (I haven't checked), most soft-sided luggage can be over-packed enough to add an inch or two of depth, and that may be the sticky dimension here.

Vueling's official rules are in centimeters and kilograms: http://www.vueling.com/en/vueling-services/prepare-your-trip/luggage/hand-luggage. The current version of Rick's Rolling Carry-On is only larger on the smallest dimension for the main bag (9" deep vs. 7.87"). If your bag is not packed full then the soft front is flexible. I can't really imagine that smallest dimension being an issue in an overhead bin - only if you were trying to stow under a seat.

thanks for the info. I will do a practice pack and measure again.
