We are going on a RS's My Way trip to Spain this Sept. 2015. I have seen various prices for tickets and have seen nowhere to buy unless you take a tour with a group.
Can someone help me decide which day to go, we're there on a Sat. and Sunday, and what time to go?
I hear tickets are free on Sunday evenings but we don't want to wait in line.
I purchased my tickets at the window in July...not a wait early in the day. With your passports (yours and your wife's) you may be eligible for a discount .. 7 euros I think was the cost...check out its website and see. Either day will be crowded for sure but it is worth the effort. If you do not want the crowds, check out Museum Sorolla, (3 euros I think) The Museum of the Romanticism (3 euros I think) and The Museum of the History of Madrid (free) all accessible by the metro and both excellent.....I actually enjoyed them more as they were not crowded and had excellent selections. There is a web site for each with hours, etc.

If you want to buy online, the link that David posted above will help you. At the bottom is a section titled "online". At the bottom of that is a link for "buy online". I have bought online, you just print the paper and take it directly into the museum where they scan it and let you in. Quite easy.
As far Saturday vs. Sunday, both will likely be busy. I would avoid the free entry times if you can afford the admission, as the lines to pick up your free ticket will be long, and the museum will be busy. I think both Sat and Sun nights are free. My best advice is to go at opening time on whichever day you choose, and buy your ticket ahead to save line time. You can buy it at home and print, or wait until the day before (your hotel will likely have a printer, or you could find a internet cafe). You don't need to buy ahead - tickets won't sell out, but I find the time savings valuable.
Another option: buy a museum pass at the less-crowded Reina Sofia or Thyssen-Bornemiza. It will get you into all 3. If you're not thinking about visiting the Reina Sofia, I urge you to reconsider purely for viewing Guernica alone. It's worth it.
In 2009 I went twice for the last 2 (free) hours of the day. Whilst a crowd gathered at the entrance, once the clock ticked over there was no delay getting in.
