Visiting Antequera by train

My wife and I will be traveling by Renfe train from Granada to Antequera the first week in December. Two days later we will take another high speed train from Antequera to Madrid.

Since we understand that the Antequera - Santa Ana train station is about 19 kms. from the center of Antequera, we want to know the best way to get from the center of town to the Santa Ana train station, and vice versa.

The Rome2Rio site says there is a train station right in Antequera, called "Estación de tren Antequera AV," and that we can catch a train there that will take us to the "Santa Ana Estacion De Tren" in 8 or 9 minutes for under $4 per person.

Info on the Trainline site contradicts this, stating that "Travelling from Antequera to Antequera Santa Ana by train will require a minimum of 2 changes," and "The fastest journey time by train from Antequera to Antequera Santa Ana is 15 hours and 30 minutes."

Separately, we've seen an estimate that the cost of a taxi from Antequera to the Santa Ana station would be $50 to $65. Another site says the cost of a taxi was 25 to 30 Euros (in 2017).

It would be great if someone who has traveled to Antequera could clear up this confusion!

Thanks in advance,
-Will

The best way in these instances is to go to the Rail Operator website, not use 3rd party websites like the trainline which in this case is simply not true.

Today, Sunday, there are trains from Santa Ana to Antequera AV at 1348, 1442 (change at Malaga so ignore that one), 1701, 1923 (again via Malaga, so ignore that) and 2053. The direct trains do take 8 to 9 minutes and cost 2,30 €

Tomorrow, Monday, direct trains are at 0915, 1121, 1348, 1701 and 2053.

But the real point is that there are direct trains from Granada to Antequera AV tomorrow at 0625, 0656, 0736, 1315, 1320, 1521, 1535, 1712, 1835, 1857 and 1925.

Some but not all stop at the Santa Ana (High Speed) station after AV. But if you are booked from Granada to Antequera Santa Ana station currently then the train will almost certainly stop at Antequera AV before Santa Ana, so just get off one stop early.

So you need to re-check your connections on the RENFE website, not use trainline.

For the train to Madrid see if there is a connection to pick up the High Speed train.

There are actually through trains from Antequera AV to Madrid on a weekday at 0747, 1609 and 2013 which call at Santa Ana at 0756, 1618 and 2022 respectively.

EDIT- The trainline call Antequera AV station (opened in January 2023) by it's other name of Antequera Ciudad. That doesn't actually help you much, as they don't seem to have any trains listed as calling there, just the odd long distance bus.

But, if you look at that 0747 through train to Madrid, it starts at Granada at 0656, which they say correctly stops at Antequera AV (the station they list as Ciudad, and a station not on their list of stations). That is why no trains show up as running to Antequera AV on Trainline- poor quality, confused, computer programming.
