I want to buy my Alhambra tickets for March. Unfortunately, my friend has lost her passport. She does plan to replace it but it may take awhile. I looked on the website to buy and saw where I have to put it in the ID number. I’m wondering if I can just put her driver’s license number and she can just show her DL for entry? I mean it’s proof of her ID right? Any thoughts on this?
From the Alhambra website - look at the answer to the first question:
and here:

I know I showed my passport along with ticket to enter several venues in Spain in March 2024. I have heard anecdotal tales of those who forgot their passports and were allowed into the Nasrid Palace with a foreign driver's license or identity card from a country other than Spain. I am not sure I would trust that this is always allowed, however.
Can you contact the Alhambra directly with your question?
I contacted them but I got a reply saying I need passport or a couple of other Spanish forms of ID.
If your visit is March 2025, your friend has plenty of time to replace the passport,
unless there is some circumstance you've not mentioned here. If she lives in a
city with a passport office, go to the office. If she applied today the worst quoted
turnaround time is 6-8 weeks.
Yes my visit is for March 2025. I’m just worried about tickets selling out. I’m afraid I’m a compulsive planner lol.
I can appreciate your healthy paranoia....
But if the new passport # is available before the end of the year, I think
you'll be fine.
Also worth noting is that more tickets can be released for a date after
the website shows it's initially sold out. Hopefully you won't get to that
state of affairs, though.
Thanks for everyone’s input. She has an appt next Friday to replace her passport.
You can see in the ticketing website what the availability is for tickets for each timeslot. I just bought mine for November - about 60 days out - and there were hundreds of tickets available for most times. Perhaps March would be about the same??
Rick's newly released Spain book says tickets are released 1 yr, 3 mos and 1 mos in advance. So, as someone said above, even if the current lots sell out, more will come available.
And the timeslot is only for entry to the Nasrid Palace, so really any daytime timeslot will get you into the grounds to begin your visit.
Follow up to my post- I emailed them directly via the website (I think my first email was to a tour company) and a driver’s license is a valid form of ID so I made my reservations. My trip planning planning brain is relieved and happy to check that off my to do list!
Hello!
I work as a guide at the Alhambra and I can ensure you that as long as your friend brings her new passport, ID or driver license, she will be ok just showing her ticket along with the original official document, since they will want to check she is the same person at each monument control.
Regards.
