Visit (s)Pain this summer?

As some of you may or may not be aware, much of Spain recently went through some pretty historic drought and intense heat waves, even in April some parts already reached over 38 degrees! This does not bode well for the coming summer season.

To raise awareness about Spain's underreported climate crisis, graphic design company, Studio Xuxa, developed a series of dark humor travel posters called "Visit Pain". The designs are reminiscent of vintage 1960s Spanish tourism ads, but depict Spain's recent heat waves, which have unfortunately led to droughts and fatalities.

The travel posters warn tourists about dehydration, heat stroke, and sunburn, all part and parcel of visiting Spain in the summer I'm afraid. The goal of the campaign is to spark conversations about climate change and encourage collective efforts to mitigate its impact.

I found the travel posters very interesting and thought provoking, you can view them here - https://www.creativeboom.com/inspiration/visit-pain/

The Franco era then. Who wouldn't want to be reminded of Spain's fascistic military times?

Not sure how that relates to the topic... 🤔

The mock tourist posters are supposed to be ironic.

Thanks always Carlos! Sad for Spain! Hope for some rain! I say some as I just read a BBC article posted on the Italy forum from a resident. Northern Italy has terrible flooding and they predict more rain. Very sad! Towns and homes under water. Many rescues ongoing! So sad! How ironic these extremes can be in these shared Med coastal areas! Crazy! Similar to the “training rains” in CA earlier!

More ironic puns for future posters:

Visit Spain- it’s good for the Sol

and

It’s easy to come to Spain, No Sweat!

I was in our local currency exchange office for euro last week and the staff asked where I was going. I said I was headed to France and they said, “Everyone we’ve had in here is going to Spain this year.” Yikes

As a grown-up I ve learned to take mass media info with a pinch of salt:
Yes, it is true it has not rained a lot this year but the situation pales in comparison with the droughts of the early 90's
As for the heat-waves it is pretty cold in Madrid right now. You need a coat at night.
