Booked on the RS Barcelona & Madrid tour for March 26- April 2, 2017. We are arriving a few days early and are looking for a great Dali tour before we join the tour for our travel group of 8.
We have looked at the Viator Salavador Dali Museum, Figueres & Cadaques Small group tour. Would love feedback from anyone that may have done this tour. We do want to visit both Figueres and Cadaques.
Thank you, Tess
Viator is a re-seller of other companies tours. Best is to book with the company that is really offering this tour. If you aren't sure which one that is, go to Trip Advisor and look at the tours being offered in each city. Viator and Trip Advisor are now partners, but you do not have to book with Viator.
Tess, if you want to visit those two places in one day, I believe the tour is the best way, assuming you won't have a car. As mentioned, with a little searching you can probably find out which tour company is actually operating the tour and book directly with them, although I think booking through Viator is generally fine too, but maybe a slight amount more expensive. It is hard to arrange all that on your own, by public transportation, in one day, as I think the bus connections and schedule between Figueres and Cadaques are not too user-friendly. I myself took a day trip on my own, in April, to Figueres for the Dali Museum, and then Girona, and that was easy, but I did not include Cadeques.
PS: I looked up the tour and there is one operated by Explore Catalunya for €95 for 11 hours at explorecatalunya.com. They operate about 15 different tours -- I did another one (Medieval Villages) and it was excellent.
I agree lots of driving or train connections making for a very long day. We were faced with the same dilemma as I prefer to do it myself and really do not like big tour bus group tours. There is a small Tour Company called Spanish Trails operating out of Barcelona that offer small group day trip tours in a small Mini Van with no more tan 8 people per tour with a minimum of 2 people. A great alternative to Bus Group Tours; They do a day trip to Dali Museum and Cadaques/Costa Brava and also Dali Museum and Girona. We have used them very good personal customer service and very knowledgeable staff of American and British ex pats Highly recommended. There website: www.spanish-trails.com.
My own personal experience..... we rented a car and used GPS to go to Port Llegat to see Dali's house. We bought tix in advance. The GPS was not easy to follow and we were almost late. The plus side was that we were in a convertible fiat, and the weather was nice, so we got to drive around and look cool. We also have a good sense of humor about getting lost, except when it starts to look like we were getting late. Anyway. After seeing Dali's house (well worth the trip), we drove to Figueres (not a difficult drive) to see the museum. We had some lag time between the time we got to Figureres and the time to enter the museum.
In retrospect, I think I would have rather paid for once tour and not have to worry about the transportation or ticket times (or parking). I like Viator. I find it easy to use, and I've never had an issue (we've booked maybe 20 tours with them over the years in Spain). If you feel like doing the work to find a cheaper tour (or book through the original provider), by all means do it. But I usually just book through Viator and try to find a discount code on retailmenot or some other website. Good luck! Buen Viaje!
..Tess - let me know how it goes and what you decide on the Viator tour. I am going on a river boat cruise End of may 2017 and ending up in Barcelona. Then I talked my husband into joining me in Barcelona and doing the RS Barcelona & Madrid tour June 11 - 18 , 2017. We would also like to go to the Dali Museum also. So report back... :)
The only experience we had with Viator, was in April 2016 when we went on the RS Belgium & Holland 11 day tour. We arrived 3 days prior to the start of our tour and stayed in Brussels before going to Ghent to meet our group. We took a Viator beer tour in brussels and had a great time!!
I was going to look them up on Barcelona tours but haven't yet. We will be there two days before the start of our tour.

Thank you everyone for the feedback. We did book a private " All Things Dali" tour for our group of 8 with Spanish Trails. The tour itinerary appears to hit all the bases for our needs. For those interested, feel free to private message me for a tour review once we return after the first week of April.
Safe travels, Tess
