Vegetarian in Barcelona

Can anyone recommend good vegetarian restaurants in Barcelona?

Also, any places to get organic groceries?

Thank you!

There are a lot of small stores selling organic products spread across the city. Difficult to mention "one". Among many others, I particularly like the chains Ca l'Ametller and also Veritas. Where exactly are you staying?

As per restaurants, same goes... there are quite a few: http://www.timeout.com/barcelona/restaurants/vegetarian-delights I personally like Teresa Carles and Flax&Kale -both from the same chef --actually, a friend likes them, and since when I see her she likes to go there, I ended up liking it too :)

The restaurants you mentioned look great. Wonderful!

We are staying in 2 different hotels in Barcelona:
1. Catalonia Portal de L'Angel
2. Hotel Continental

Thank you!

Hi MAB,

Organic stores tend to be in the shape of small neighbourhood stores, mostly outside the centre -where you're located!. Yet...

The hotels are less than 200 yards from each other, so the advice for one is valid for the other:

  • The closest Veritas is in Via Laietana 28, some 10' away.
  • There's a small organic indoors market called Woki Organic Market, very close. But, to me, it's simply an over-prized shop full of pretentious products, not particularly my choice for normal shopping.
  • There's a supermarket in the basement of El Corte Ingles in Plaça Catalunya, the biggest department store around. Not sure they carry organic, but for everything else the choice is very large. There's also a gourmet section, with specialised top end food products, just outside the supermarket, also in the basement. It's called Club Gourmet.
  • There's another large supermarket, literally a few yards across the hotel, from the chain Carrefour, but they don't carry organic I believe.

But, in these shores, one of your best choices is to purchase fresh, which is what we locals do. And for that, we have many small convenience stores as well as several fresh food markets spread across the city. One of such is the (in)famous La Boqueria Market, located a few yards away from the hotel, in Les Rambles. Unfortunately, these days the site is overrun with tourists and it has become a bit sort of a food theme park rather than a proper market, so I would recommend another great one: Santa Caterina, located as well a few minutes away from the hotel.
