Vega Terron to Madrid - Travel Options

We are looking at doing a river cruise that ends in Vega Terron. Rather than doing the cruise line's land itinerary to get to Madrid and other parts of Spain, we'd like to travel on our own. However, I can't seem to find a train station in Vega Terron. Does anyone know if there is a train station anywhere nearby that would get us to Madrid? Is renting a car an option?

The nearest train station as far as see on a map is Pocinho, 40 kms. back up the river or road. I do not see a train journey to Madrid from there as any less than 14 hours even if all trains (probably three changes) connect efficiently.

What is the cruise company's itinerary from Vega Terron? Why not ask them for assistance?

Thanks Neil. I am seeing the same thing, but thought I would see if anyone had any other ideas.

The cruise company offers a land package add on that will take you to Madrid. We were hoping to avoid going with the group, however, and having some time to explore on our own. Looks like the package offered by the cruise might be the only way to go.

Only a couple of trains serve the Spain/Portugal border, and none on the Spanish side in that area. If the company offers an option to drop you in Salamanca, then that town has train service and Europcar rentals without going as far as Madrid.
