We'll be in Valencia 4 nights this October and are wondering whether anyone has used the Valencia Tourist Card? We prefer public transportation so it sounds interesting.
Yes, the Valencia card is a good deal if you actually use it. Same goes for other cities, particularly Lyon.
If all you do is use it once in the morning to get away from the lodging and once at the end of the day to get back,
and you visit only one of the included museums, then it isn't serving you well. Plan out a treasure hunt (or an orienteering trail) that involves a few different routes and a few different entries and it feels like the card is making your trip great with little outlay.
Don't over-value the transit component of the Valencia Card. Single transit tickets cost only €1.50 each, and it seems you can pay on the bus.. Alternatively, you can buy a card loaded with 10 rides for just €10.
We live in Valencia. One option to consider is you can buy a SUMA card (plastic card 2 euros at any metro station) and load it with 10 rides at a time for AB zone for 4 Euros (it is 1/2 price until end of Jan 2024). 40 cents a ride with one transfer allowed - you can't beat it. You can put up to 30 rides on one card and use one card for multiple people (up to 15 people). Just tap once for each one. They unified the system last year so the SUMA card can be used on buses, metro (subway), cercanías (RENFE commuter lines), and metro buses (suburban). They can be recharged at special machines in the metro stations, or at the tobacco shops. To be honest the city center in Valencia is very flat, compact, and walkable so most of the time you won't need to take public transport to see the sights in the center. I would consider the Tourist Card if you plan to visit a lot of museums, but wouldn't get it for transportation. Many museums are quite cheap (2-3 euros) and most are free on Sundays (10 AM - 2 PM). For more info on SUMA 10: https://www.metrovalencia.es/en/tickets/ Go to "coordinated tickets" drop down box and choose SUMA 10.
And a tip/trick to mention is that after the tourist card expires you can still use it to load additional transit credit - no need to get another plastic card.
Thanks, all, for the replies on my posting. It has been very helpful.
Valencia can be easily visited by walking and for the few buses you can take, I suggest you to buy the cheap ticket on board.
We spent four nights in Valencia and never took transit. We walked and explored the old town. We did rent a tandem bike to ride the Turia gardens to the City of Arts and Sciences and Oceangrafica
