Hello!
My wife and I are spending two weeks in Spain this March and want advice on how long to stay and things to see and do. We see no mention of Valencia in Rick’s Spain Book.
My husband and I spent 3 days in Valencia last October. We stayed close to the train station which allowed us to walk to all the things in the "old town" area. Public transportation is excellent. We were able to just tap our credit cards to use it. The beach area is quieter than Barcelona (which was extremely busy!) I think my favorite part was Turia Gardens. We rented bikes one day and rode the whole park. (Bike theft can be a real problem even if you lock up the bike so be warned) I found this web site to be helpful in suggestions and links to more information. We found 3 nights and 2 1/2 days was a good amount for a visit.

Edited: We only made it to a handful of these suggestions. We had beautiful weather, but I did think during the planning stage that there were many good rainy day activities if the weather was unfavorable.
Rick’s guide books are not comprehensive; he includes places where his tours go. Look at other guide books like Fodors if you decide to visit Valencia.
Valencia is beautiful and three days is a perfect amount of time to stay. I recommend staying near the historic center so that you can enjoy walking and exploring that area. Don't miss the market, don't miss the cathedral, and I would recommend taking a bike tour. We also took the tram to the beach which was just ok. (The restaurants were pretty touristy but if you have time it's fun to see.). Have fun!
What dates in March will you be visiting?

We spent 5 nights in Barcelona, 4 nights on Valencia and 5 nights in Madrid in November 2023. In our trip, I would rank Valencia second only to Barcelona. Valencia is a very pleasant city, less crowded and more affordable than the other two cities.
Spain is a big country and first timers with only 2 weeks tend to bypass Valencia in order to fit in Andalucia or the Basque country with the other 2 big cities. Rick Steves does not include it in his Spain book. I saw a youtube video of Valencia and decided I had to visit it. I am glad we did. We will make Andalucia a separate vacation the next time we visit Spain.
