We want to be in a junior suite that is fairly spacious. Location can be in a, fun neighborhood but we are 2 retired women and not looking for bars or clubs, but nice cafes and restaurants would be a plus.I think a nightly budget of 300-450 USD is fine for us. Any suggestions will be appreciated... Thank you

We really enjoyed the Melia Plaza Valencia earlier this month. It was very nice, great location, and the people there could not have been nicer or more helpful!

I'm in Valencia right now staying in an Airbnb next to the The Valentia Corretgeria. I've never been but it's a great location and seems like a nice, new boutique hotel.

Thanks so much. It looks lovely. Any other Valencia tips? We'd love to hear them.

We stayed at the ONLY YOU and loved it, but it may be out of your range.

One thing I'd highly recommend is to go for a lunch at one of the traditional rice restaurants: Paella and other rice dishes that you order when you book your table. If you are interested, I will give you some of the names of places we went to when we stayed in the city for 10 nights.

Valencia tips from being here for 1.5 days:

  • Go to the aquarium but get there right when it opens and immediately go to the beluga whale area because it will be empty and they're just majestic creatures.
  • Sueño Andaluz for tapas. Get the pork from the spit, bravas and the tortillitas de camarones.
  • Latte Farina for Italian food, highly recommend.

I'd strongly recommend visiting the Church of Saint Nicholas of Bari. I've seen some amazing cathedrals in Spain, but this church is truly something special. The Silk Exchange is also very beautiful and interesting!

Thanks so much everyone for the tips on Valencia. I now have a hotel booked at Only You and am doing the daily planning...there's a lot to see in 3 days...then we go to Madrid!

I really appreciate the help and guidance. Meg

I had the prix fixe menu at the Mirador de Only You yesterday afternoon. It was really tasty and a very slick, upscale restaurant. The hotel seemed great from my brief walk through the lobby.

I second the church of San Nicolas di Bari. It's known as "the Sistine chapel of Valencia" and it's a marvel.

I will never forget how I left my handbag on a pew and left the church. After walking a block or two,I remembered and ran back in a total panic but, happily, it was still there, untouched, although the church was crowded with visitors.

Anyone who stays at the ONLY YOU should make contact on arrival with Jose Enrique Grau, the guest services manager. Besides being worth of a magazine fashion shoot, he knows everything about his native city and was so helpful to us when we were there.
