Anyone been to Valencia? We'll be in Barcelona and want to take train to Valencia for 2 days, then head to Alicante and on to Malaga, all by train.
Thanks,
Laurie
Hi Laurie, You might want to start with a good guidebook for suggestions on what to do in the region. Rick's guidebooks are good but they don't cover Alicante or Valencia. You could try a Lonely Planet guidebook to start with or do a google search for the top sites to visit in Valencia. Two main sites are the Cathedral and the Plaza del Mercado.
As for the trains, look up train schedules on the Deutsche Bahn. Its a German run site but it has schedules for all over Europe including Spain. There is a link on Rick Steves website with tips on how to use it: http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/trains/online-schedules.
If those are the only routes you are doing, you probably don't need a rail pass. Point -to-point tickets will most likely come out a little under the cost of a pass. You can buy tickets in the US before you go or wait until you get there, but if you get them before you go you may be able to get a little bit of a discount. You can get them either on www.renfe.com or www.raileurope.com
