Valencia, Cuenca, Toledo, Salamanca and Madrid

I'm thinking about going to Valencia, Cuenca, Toledo, Salamanca and Madrid. I would fly into Valencia and out of Madrid. I would use public transportation.

I'm not sure if it's better to spend all the Madrid nights at the end, or to split the Madrid nights in two chunks.

I've been in Madrid a few times, in Toledo once as a day trip, and haven't been in Valencia, Cuenca or Salamanca. I've been in Segovia and Avila, a few nights in each, so I don't want to go there on this trip.

Option 1, 2 or 3?

Option 1:
Valencia - 4 nights
Cuenca - 2 nights
Toledo - 4 nights
Salamanca - 4 nights
Madrid 4 nights

Option 2:
Valencia - 4 nights
Cuenca - 2 nights
Madrid - 1/2 nights
Toledo - 4 nights
Salamanca - 4 nights
Madrid 2/3 nights

Option 3:
Valencia - 4 nights
Cuenca - 2 nights
Toledo - 4 nights
Madrid - 1/2 nights
Salamanca - 4 nights
Madrid 2/3 nights

The transfers from Cuenca to Toledo and from Toledo to Salamanca seem a bit complicated. Would renting a car be a good idea?

Of all the places you’ve mentioned I’ve been only to Madrid. Because I hate packing and unpacking as well as moving I wouldn’t divide my time in Madrid. Good luck on your trip.

Unless you plan some day trips, 4 nights in each Toledo and Salamanca is overkill.

Being one who always rents a car in Spain, a rental car makes sense because you can make stops between Cuenca-Toledo-Salamanca and easily take day trips.
