Valencia Center for Arts and Science and what else?

We will have 2 days in Valencia. Can anyone offer insight into how we can make the best use of our time? I think we definitely want to see the Center for Arts and Sciences, and think that will take most of one day (we like to be thorough). Should I buy tickets for all 3 attractions? Aside from the CAS, the cathedral and the La Lonja, what are other "must see" sites or activities?

If you want things that are particular/specific to Valencia and you like museums, then your highest priority is the archaeology/history museum under Placa de L'Almoina and your second priority is the ceramics museum, as mentioned above. The City of Arts and Sciences, frankly, is more flash than substance.

If your focus is on museums, your next priorities would be the fine arts museum, the modern art museum (IVAM), and the ethnology museum next door to it.

If your focus is on Valencia, then your next priorities are the cathedral, the Lonja, the walls and (dry) river, and perhaps even better would be to take a walking tour with an official guide, since that usually includes a stop in the central market, too. The tour will give you quick looks at the Redona and several other important plazas. The University buildings are also interesting to poke around in.

Again, the CAS is mostly for fans of modern architecture -- if you are interested in museum contents, then proceed as above.

Take time to eat at some wonderful restaurants! Our favorite was Panorama at Las Arenas Beach, wonderful beach/ocean views and La Comisaria, Asian influenced tapas. Seu Xerea & Refugio had very good set menus for $19eu & $12eu.

Hi Brenda,

You might enjoy a walking tour of the old city. I took it when I was in Valencia a couple of months back. You need to buy tickets/make reservations at the TI on the plaza in front of the Cathedral. The English language tour starts at either 10:00 or 10:30 AM daily (I can't remember which) and costs about 17 euros. The entire tour takes approximately 2 hours and makes a stop at the Mercado for a cold drink and a snack - included in the price. I enjoyed the tour and our guide Pablo was both educational and entertaining, with excellent English skills. When I was there in early November there were only five of us on the tour, although I would imagine it would be a much larger group in the summer months.
