Using apple pay, credit cards or cash in Spain.

We are wondering about using Apple pay in Spain verses credit cards or cash. (On a recent trip to England we used apple pay 99% of the time, except for public bathrooms, so we have no idea if Spain is similar in this regard.)
We are wondering in particular about restaurants and tapas bars, taxis, bus and train tickets. Other situations?
Thanks

In Madrid, I used Apple Pay everywhere. I didn't even get local cash until I arrived at the small city to begin my camino. I don't know about taxis for Apple Pay as I did use my card then. FYI, the receptionist at my hotel told me the law requires taxis to take the person to an ATM to obtain cash if the taxi refuses a credit card.

Even walking the Camino Frances, I usually used my Apple Pay so it is pretty far reaching. There were occasions when cash was easiest or required in the smaller bars along the walk.

While Apple products are less common in Spain, any place that accepts contactless will accept Apple Pay. I did find myself making more small transactions in Spain, so having some cash in your pocket would be wise, you might get some push-back from a vendor for a 2 euro purchase. In the UK, most everything cost enough to justify tapping with phone or card.

An Edit: Worth also mentioning, that in the UK, the "tap" or contactless amount was raised to 100 GBP, in Spain, it will be closer to 50 EUR, so you may have to insert your card for some higher cost transactions that you would not have had to in the UK.

There’s no contactless limit with ApplePay and it will be accepted pretty much everywhere in Spain. You may need a small amount of cash for the odd kiosk or small shop that takes cash only but a few Euros will suffice. Take €100 and you’ll cover every eventuality.

I can’t speak to Apple Pay, but contactless was used most everywhere when I was there last year. I only ran into a few places that were cash only; two in Zaragoza and one in Burgos. I always have some cash in Europe but not more than 200€. Cash is nice for those purchases that are less than 5€ or when a merchant has a 10-15€ minimum to use a card.

Google Pay worked almost everywhere in Spain including taxis, museums, tapas bars, hotels, campgrounds, coffee stops...just back from a 7 week trip there.

Thanks for all the replies.
So in particular I am now wondering about taxis.
If I get into a taxi with just my iphone and no cash, it is pretty certain I will be able to use apple pay?
Just wanted to confirm that.

That should be no problem. But I will say that while I've spent weeks in Spain without using any cash, I would never walk around anywhere, home or traveling, without at least some cash on me.
