Uninclusive Mallorca

Ironically, I just wrote a trip report about how much I wasn't a good fit with the all-inclusive scene in Mallorca, and I'm now considering returning in a few days for a very different kind of trip, due to incredibly cheap airfare and being more romanced by the charm of the landscape during our hotel transfers than my experience with the resort scene. My husband is skeptical.

I have been to Palma and loved it, and think we could spend a day or two there and enjoy it, and rent a car and spend another couple days...somewhere else. I would like at least one beach day somewhere that's lovely and not too crowded in early June (if that's possible). Gorgeous water and scenery matter more than a sandy beach, I've got rockin' water shoes. But we are open to staying inland and driving for a beach day. We like mountain scenery, mild hiking available would be cool, beautiful historic old towns, delicious food, and good values. We usually stay at boutique hotels or apartments, don't need anything super fancy. We don't mind some tourists (obviously, or else we wouldn't be considering Mallorca) but are uninterested in the club scene or a row of British pubs offering a full English in the morning.

Any recommendations?

You might look at Port de Polenca. It is on the far East side, not a bad bus ride, but they have many local hotels, a nice beach front, a protected harbor...so the water is a bit warmer. I recall the food being good and we day tripped to a couple nearby towns. We found it nice in that we could do the non-all-inclusive small hotel scene in a nice town, plus being well away from the big resorts

I just wanted to update this to say thanks for the Pollenca recommendation, Paul. We didn't stay in the Port (although we came close) but instead stayed in nearby Cala Sant Vincenc and had a wonderful time, and we did spend an evening in Port Pollenca, too. I wrote a trip report in that section if you're interested. Cheers!
