We will be staying in San Sebastian September 9-10. Already booked for a MIMO tapas tour. Can anyone kindly recommend a txakoli winery tour? Thank you very much!
We found a fun Sagardoa cider house tour through the San Sebastian TI office. We visited last July, and had a bus tour into the mountains, with a visit to a Basque farmer who produced award winning idiazabal cheese. Next was a trip to a cider house, where we learned about the cider production. We were able to sample many different kinds of ciders right from the barrels. The traditional cider house dinner was delicious, with cod omelette, cod and peppers, great bread, wonderful steak, and dessert of the idiazabal cheese with quince and walnuts, all served at a long communal table. Our whole family really enjoyed the ritual of the cider maker calling "Txotx!" and everyone leaving the table to try another kind of cider between each course. Booking through the TI gave us a discount - which may have been because there was still room on a tour leaving two days later! :-) In any case, it was a great day for us, leaving the beach to go into the mountains for a while. It felt a lot like Switzerland, except with horses wearing bells! We all thought it was a memorable and worthwhile experience.
