Two Months in Barcelona

Hello All!

I am thinking of going to Barcelona mid August for 6-8 weeks. I have been there once before for a week and only hit a few of the amazing places the city offers. I'm heading back to spend more time and immerse myself in the culture. I love architecture, history, food tours, cooking classes, shopping, wandering, etc. I just want to relax, enjoy the city and take advantage of being able to explore at my own pace or take some day trips.

I would love to hear your recommendation of where to stay, actual Apts or Air BnB's you may have stayed in, restaurants, activities, experiences, etc. I'm 55 and a female solo traveler. I have some slight mobility issues.

Tell me everything! LOL.

Mid-August?... and "you are thinking" now??? Girl, you're late. August is already fully booked, the city is packed with tourists. If you can choose, I'd suggest postponing it until Sep, not that it won't be equally very busy, but not as many tourists as in August.

Also most of the locals in Barcelona go on holiday in August, so you'll find a lot of shuttered down shops and restaurants for the whole month, outside the most touristy zones.

I'm sure you're also aware how Airbnb is negatively impacting the local population in Barcelona? As well as the current drought emergency in Barcelona and the surrounding region?

Enric, ordinarily I would NEVER go to Europe in August, but I have the time and would enjoy myself more there then here in the US.

It would probably be wise til wait til September……..any suggestions for somewhere else? I’ve been to England, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Belgium, Amsterdam, Canada and Mexico. Europe has my heart .

Poland's great. Many fascinating cities and towns, and it should generally be a bit cooler than Barcelona.

Poland, as well as several other central European countries. We loved our visit to Prague and I'd love to see more of Czech Republic and Slovakia. Krakow was lovely, and I'd also like to see more of Poland. And Slovenia is mountainous and beautiful. I recently spent a week in Vienna with my daughter and there was so much to see! Central Europe is not as crowded as Spain will be, and as pointed out, it won't be as hot!

FYI Spain is bigger than just Barcelona ;-)

In August it can be quite hot and uncomfortable in most of the country, however that's not typically the case in Northern Spain aka "Green Spain". It's quite the contrast compared to the rest of Spain, and looks more like Ireland mixed in with the Alps. The weather is much more temperate too, more like what you would find in Switzerland.

From medieval villages, to the picturesque wine regions, the emerald waters of Bay of Biscay, the culinary delights of the Basque country, the Celtic culture of Galicia, and finally the towering jagged peaks of the Picos de Europa, Northern Spain has something for everyone and is less touristy than the rest of Spain.

Here is a good article about Northern Spain:

I also agree Poland is another viable option for August, but it can be quite humid and hot there in August and not a lot of air conditioning in that country. Sweden or Norway could also be good options for weather + less overtourism in August .
