Planning on heading to Seville for a two day break of 8 days in Madrid. Should we stop in Toledo early AM on the way to Seville or should we skip Toledo. Traveling with two 10/12 year old boys?
If you’re driving you could technically visit Toledo on the way to Sevilla, but you wouldn’t have time to see much. Toledo merits at least a day. If you want to visit it and don’t want to spend a night, do it as a day trip from Madrid. If taking a train and going to Toledo, you need to go back through Madrid to get to Sevilla so it wouldn’t make any sense to do that.
If travel time is separate from your two days for Sevilla, you could get a sense of the city. If the travel time is part of the two days, you’d be doing Sevilla an injustice.
The boys might like smaller Toledo better than larger Sevilla. You may want to solicit their input.
Someone else may have better info, but I think getting from Toledo to Seville involves going
back to Madrid in just about every case if using trains or buses.
So, probably better off to do a day trip to Toledo on one of the other days you are in Madrid.
That's right, there's no train from Madrid to Toledo to Seville, Toledo is a separate trip. Could be a day trip while you're in Madrid, or an overnight. Seville is on a separate train line, easy to reach and well worth seeing. Without more time overall, I'd suggest picking one or the other. Toledo would be easier, but Seville maybe more of a cultural contrast.
Sevilla has so much in the city that I wouldn’t bother stopping at Toledo for your short amount of time.
We stayed in Toledo for two nights and Sevilla for four nights. So, we have stayed in both of them. (And returning to Sevilla soon.)
