Trying to decide between visiting Spain in April or October as well as schedule to visit cities

I’m planning a 12 day (excludes flight times to arrive/depart Spain) tour of Spain. We want to visit Barcelona, Sevilla, and Grenada. Heard that weather is great in April, but if we choose Oct,, we’d best go early Oct. due to chance of rainfall. Your thoughts re these two months? Secondly, does anybody have a suggestion as to whether we should fly in and out of Madrid to keep travel expense down rather than fly open jaw? Would also appreciate suggestion in regards the order to visit cities in order to keep time spent on trains at a minimum. Thank you.

To me, either month works, but it may be cooler in April in each of those cities. Check on when Holy Week is in Sevilla since hotels are probably more expensive during that time. Regarding flights, price out which option would be less expensive. Open Jaw might be cheaper. Also, check out pricing flying into and out of the different airport combinations. One combination may be less than a different combination. If you’re not spending time in Madrid it doesn’t make sense (to me) to fly into it. My guess is Granada will be your middle stop.

Thanks for tip that April (at least early part of month) is cooler than October. Has anybody ever been to Spain in April and encountered rain during month of April. Definitely going to Sevilla and Granada at start of trip and then working my way back to Madrid and Barcelona. I'm not a fan of playing tourist when the rain is pouring down on us. Just trying to guess probability of rain. Any thoughts out there?

Rainfall each year is different and it could rain for 10 minutes or 5 hours. There’s no way to predict it.

The link is to the rainfall totals for Sevilla for 2023. Note that in April it only rained 1 day and that was only 2.2mm.

We've traveled to Madrid/Barcelona in late March...it was a bit dreary and cool in Madrid but still ok. No rain that I remember. Then we traveled to Madrid/Seville/Granada in late Oct 22 and it was so hot! Seville was sweltering and I had bought a pair of shorts. One day of heavy rain.

So I'd pick April! However, check out Easter and Feria (don't know much about it but Rick talks about it) to avoid major holidays in Seville. We normally go with the cheapest flight, but it's not always the best option if you have to buy extra train tickets or if it takes away from places you want to see. The challenge is that Barcelona is quite a ways from the other cities you want to see. If you're open to itinerary changes, consider flying in and out of Grenada and saving Barcelona for another trip. There's plenty to see in Andalusia in 12 days.
