I am planning a trip to Spain in December, with two kids (11 and 13) and we want to visit Barcelona and Madrid, with a maximum of a two-week stay, and a minimum of five to six days. I am having trouble finding a hotel to fit both our budget and our standards, something that does not break the bank but is clean and well maintained. Also, need to plan an itinerary for our trip that will be fun for the entire family, and that will fit our time frame. Are there any itinerary and hotel recommendations?
Where do you recommend we spend most of our time and what activities can we do as a family?
One more thing, we are big into Christmas and want to visit a town/place that really celebrates the christmas season while there.
Thanks.
For a family, I would strongly suggest an apartment. We found some really nice ones. There is a nice rental company called Home Club.
Other posters may be able to suggest specific lodgings for you, but you need to tell us your nightly budget in euros. Are there three of you, or four?
I haven't found it difficult to find clean, well-maintained hotel rooms in Spain or elsewhere in Europe. It is true that at the budget level, rooms in Barcelona and Madrid are likely to be rather small (and the showers even smaller). Triples and quads are far less common that doubles, of course. You might start by seeing what is available on booking.com.
Have you gotten a guide book or two to help with planning your itinerary? Only you know what interests you. What prompted you to choose Spain?
Most guide books will have hotel suggestions/reviews as well as a catalog of sights, sites and attractions
