Travelling to Spain in May

We'd like to travel to Spain flying to Malaga and end our trip in Barcelona in two weeks. Need some suggestions:

  • What town or two in south we can choose as our base to make day trips to Sevilla, Granada, Cordoba (by car)?
  • Can we take a train from any of the south town to Valencia, and then from Valencia to Barcelona?

Thank you.

I'm not sure I'd recommend making daytrips with a car into those cities. They are not car friendly. But perhaps someone can help by identifying parking areas outside the city centers where you can take a commuter train in.

I believe the AVE links Sevilla with Valencia direct. Cordoba is on that line. Malaga is linked to Sevilla by AVE too. Granada is the city not well served yet by train.

Valencia is linked direct to Barcelona by train, though I don't think it is the high speed AVE.

The car notion doesn't make sense unless you drive sequentially to all three and skip the day trip idea.

Cordova is sort of in the middle but it's two and a half hours from each of the other two. Seville is a pain in the tail for driving - - Granada is not much better - - Cordoba is almost okay.

Maybe pair Seville and Cordoba, staying in one and making an excursion to the other, but no matter how you do it, one will be short-changed.

Granada need to be a separate stop.

Have you already booked your flight into malaga? If not, suggest flying into seville which opens options for staying in seville without a car and use train to goto cordoba and then train to granada. I have not used trains for this purpose, confident others can help w logistics.
I have used malaga as a base while renting a car. It is possible to drive into granada by going to the public parking lot located at the top of alhambra if you are doing granada as a day trip. If you are spending the night in old town then ditch the car. We drove to seville and spent the night as is too far for effective day trip. We did day trip to ronda and other locals. Car rental works great in andalusia if you are interested in making day trips and meandering to out of the way places not found via train travel.
