Travelling in Southern Spain

We will be travelling in Spain, beginning in Malaga, for a week in late April early May. Plan to go to Cordova, Granada, then down to coastal towns, ending in Barcelona for a couple of days. Any suggestions on highlights for these areas since we are only there for a week?

Muchas Gracias!

I assume you will have a car. Your plan is to arrive in Malaga, drive north to Cordoba, then back south and turn east to Granada, then head more or less east to the sea coast and follow the coast north east to Barcelona, arriving 7 days after starting in Malaga????

Day 1 - see Malaga.
Day 2 - drive to Cordoba (2 hrs)
Day 3 - drive to Granada (2+ hrs)
Day 4 - Granada
Days 5 - 6 drive along the coast stopping at seaside towns overnight
Day 7 - Barcelona

Is that more or less the plan? And you want recommendations for highlights along the coast to Barcelona?

Yes, Chani.

That is the plan - Sunday-Thursday with end of trip in Barcelona for 3 days.
Any suggestions for the coastal towns?

Thanks

That's awfully packed for a week, you'll be rushing through everything. If you're spending 3 days in Barcelona, 4 days does not do Córdoba, Málaga, Granada, and a coastal town justice. You're better off slicing that itinerary in half and just staying in Málaga with trips to Nerja/Algeciras/Marbella (Costal towns) and maybe a Pueblo Blanco like Ronda. With that schedule, you'll be warn out from traveling quickly and will probably want to unwind on a beach (cue Nerja/Málaga). Also, it's extremely far from Andalucía to Barcelona and will take a very long time, just a heads up. When I travelled by bus it was Málaga - Madrid (7h30) and Madrid - Barcelona (8h).

Hello,
We're starting in Barcelona and taking train to Valencia, then bus to Alicante. Staying 2 nights in each. Then bus to Nerja, Rick highly recommends it, see his DVD on Spain.
From Nerja we're taking bus/train to Madrid, which train starts in Cordoba and is high speed rail. We're staying in Madrid for a few days and heading back to Barcelona to get on a cruise.
Check out rome2rio.com for help in seeing the routes with bus/train and approximate rates.
Car rental is too expensive and you need to know how to drive a manual. I don't.

Have fun.

I agree, I would try not to do too many destinations (as hard as that may be). Perhaps you should consider maximizing your time in Cordoba and Granada. Granada, of course, you must see the Alhambra. Have you considered seeing at night - awesome experience. There aren't as many tourists and if you can manage to see it during a full moon it's magical. There is also a beautiful small town near Granada - Alhama de Granada - not totally off the beaten path but quieter than Granada. Article from Britain's Telegraph newspaper:

I would say, again, as hard as it may be, attempt to go less places so that you can afford to slow down in the places you decide to keep on your itinerary so that you can relax and take it all in.
