Traveling from Porto to US with a layover in Madrid. Is there more than 1 passport check in Madrid?

Hi. Ill be traveling from Porto to the US. One flight option would have a 2hour 25minute layover in Madid. It would be on one ticket purchased through American Airlines with the Porto to Madrid operated my Iberia. It looks like the Iberia flight would arrive at terminal 4 then the flight to the US would be from 4S. I can see online there is a short train from T4 to T4S. Will I need to go through passport control in T4 and then again in T4S or would I go directly to the train in T4 then passport control at T4S. Thank you

As per the Madrid Airport website: You'll go through passport control after arriving in T4S to exit the Schengen area for international flights.

If by passport check you mean exit immigration, that should happen as you enter Terminal 4S, or along the way in Madrid, but only once.

If you mean an ID check or security, in Porto you will obviously go through security, in Madrid, you should not need to, other than the exit process, though in the gate area, they may have additional security and ID checks.
