traveling by car in southern Spain in January

Four of us will be flying into Seville and after a few days, traveling to Malaga and taking day trips for a week. We'd like to consider renting a car before we leave Seville. What are the roads like traveling to Malaga and then along the coast toward Gibraltar and possibly to Nerja and Granada?

From Seville to Malaga, you cross through a less populated zone. The roads are good, but not "interstate, divided road level" more state highway level.

From Malaga towards Gibraltar or Nerja, there are modern "Interstate" type roads, but obviously, to get to either you have to get off those and on to local roads.

Parking will be an issue anywhere. Certainly look at that with any lodging, if they say "parking available" or "nearby", press them a bit, you want parking provided.

We did the route from Granada to Malaga via bus. Just like driving I-70 in our mountains. Four lanes and big shoulders. Great views.
