We’re flying into Madrid and arrive October 24, and hitting up futbol game Saturday October 25th (this is what the trip is for, and only have a hotel booked these nights so far). We’re open to traveling by train to other places to visit and stay and looking for suggestions, (we love food, architecture, food. Just excited for the culture and Spain!). Heard Segovia was a good stop. We fly out of Madrid on November 1st. Can anyone provide suggestions for us please! Taking my son as a graduation trip, thank you!
Don't forget to check Toledo.
The two most astounding, memorable sights in Spain are the Alhambra in Granada and the Mesquita in Cordoba. They are truly unique.
With the time you have I’d maximize sightseeing by minimizing travel time going to places. Essentially, I’d stayed within a few hours of Madrid.
If traveling by train one may need to head back through Madrid to catch a train to the next location. I’m a fan of renting a car for the flexibility a car affords and being able to stop in small villages not well serviced by public transportation. Places that would easily occupy the time you have plus some, are Toledo, Segovia, Salamanca, Zamora, León and Burgos. With a car one could make a loop starting and ending in Madrid. The last three could occupy all your time so consider only trying to visit a couple other places.
If visiting only a couple places, train or bus travel may be best.
There are, of course, many other interesting towns and cities you could visit with the time you have.
10/24-10/27 Madrid
10/28-10/30 Sevilla
10/31 Madrid
- You can find it a day trip to Cordoba as it's on the way from Madrid to Sevilla, if you want.
- Segovia or Toledo as Madrid day trips.
- Madrid is one of the largest cities in Europe with amazing food and vibrant urban life. Lot of restaurants that would be extremely expensive in the USA that are pretty affordable. If you need Sevilla or Madrid restaurant recommendations, I have a lot.
- Sevilla is quintessentially Spain. You have a ton of beautiful Moorish style architecture, medieval old town streets, the Cathedral, the Alcazar, the setas, and it's perhaps the number one tapas city in Spain. -This itinerary gives you all travel on high speed trains and it's not overcomplicated. But, you still see a European capital and gets a ton of Spanish charm.
@Plectrude I would Love and greatly appreciate restaurant recommendations, THANK YOU!
Think my plan is going to be:
• Oct 24 – 25 Madrid
• Oct 26 – Segovia
• Oct 27 – Travel Segovia → Granada
• Oct 28 – Granada
• Oct 29 – Travel Granada → Madrid
• Oct 30 – 31 (+- day trip to Toledo)
• Sat, Nov 1 – Madrid fly home
Realize that by taking the train from Segovia to Granada, you will have to transfer across Madrid from Chamartin station (handles travel to Segovia) to Atocha (handles travel to Granada). I would personally prioritize more time in Madrid and wouldn't spent the night in Segovia.
- Baldoria
- HUNDRED burgers
- Bardero
- La Maruca
- Cervecería La Campana
- Casa Revuelta
- La Caníbal
- Mercado de Vallehermoso
A few places I really like. I could mention more if you specify a neighborhood, type of restaurant/bar, etc.
