I am trying to get a train from Madrid to Sarria in May and have not had any luck. I can get as far as Ourense, but then cannot find a train or bus to get any closer to Sarria. Is there something going on this year? Does anyone have any suggestions for getting there in May?

The schedule doesn’t go out to May yet, but I picked a date in April and it says that “due to infrastructure work the part of the trip between Ourense and Lugo will be via highway.” Sarria is the stop before Lugo. Renfe should have the bus waiting when the train arrives in Ourense.
The train departs from Madrid’s Chamartín station. I couldn’t find an end of construction date, but Spain is modernizing the rail links.

We will be going from Madrid to Sarria on September 16. Will you be starting to walk the Camino from there like us? I figured it was too early for the train tickets. Of course, I am hoping any work will be completed by then.
Just as an aside, when we saw Rick at the travel show in NY in January, he mentioned Spain was working on a hi speed train from Madrid to Lisbon.

@Barbara - we made the Sarria-Santiago walk in 2019. We did visit Lugo for a couple days prior to the walk and Madrid for a couple days afterwards.
