Travel from Segovia to El Escorial/Valley of the Fallen, then back to Madrid

Hi,

I am trying to find the best way to travel to the locations listed in the Title. We are planning to take the AVE train from Madrid to Segovia, spend the night in Segovia and then see El Escorial and Valley of the Fallen on our way back to Madrid the following day. Anyone know the exact process for this? Combination of bus and train? Which stations? Which lines, etc? Can I and do I need to purchase advance tickets for these trips and how?

Thanks!

Without checking schedules you will have to use the bus. But the bus system in Spain is terrific and cheap. The Spain train system is not as extensive as most of Europe but the bus system is well developed.

Check Rome2Rio.com. I think there are multiple options, including perhaps an all-train options that doesn't require you to travel all the way back to Madrid, but you'll need to dig down till you find links to the bus company and/or train company (Renfe) websites to see what will fit with your schedule. Day of week may matter a great deal, so be sure to choose a date that matches your plans.

Do not trust anything Rome2Rio tells you about length of trip, frequency of departures, or fares; just use it for the website links.
