Travel from Granada to Ronda

We will be leaving Granada on 9/25 to travel to Ronda. What bus/ train runs between these two cities? Should I purchase the tickets before we leave, or is it safe to buy when the morning we are leaving? Thanks for any advice.

Nan,

You can travel from Granada to Ronda via train.
You can check train schedules on Renfe.com

You can book your tickets in advance, or at the train station a couple of days prior to your journey.

Keep in mind that due to railway construction, the journey will entail traveling via bus from Granada (train station) to Antequera Santa Ana train station where you’ll transfer to a train to continue to your destination.

Have a wonderful trip!

I believe the rail link between Antequera and Granada is now open. Not sure how many trains there are each day, though.

Acraven,

I believe the rail link between Antequera and Granada is now open.

This appears to be true, but only for some train routes, specifically those traveling to Córdoba and Madrid.

According to Renfe, the trains traveling from Granada to Ronda, or Sevilla (these are the ones I checked), still require its passengers to travel via bus for part of the journey (Granada to Antequera Santa Ana) and via train for the rest of the journey.

There are only 3 trains/day traveling from Granada to Ronda at the present time.

Thank you for the information on train from Granada to Ronda. I was able to book train on Loco2. Now I am trying to figure out bus from Ronda to Arcos and then Arcos to Seville. I have looked up schedule on Comes Bus but website is not user friendly. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have in front of me a handout obtained from the Ronda tourist office in late April 2019. It is a summary of bus schedules to and from Ronda. The footer says it was last updated in February 2019. I have no idea whether the bus schedules are seasonal.

The handout indicates that Comes buses depart Ronda for Arcos Mon-Fri at 9:30 AM and 4:00 PM and Sat/Sun/hol at 5 PM. My policy is not to trust bus schedules found anywhere other than at the departure bus station, but I've generally found tourist-office handouts like this to be accurate.

As I recall from my own trip-planning, one option for getting from Arcos to Seville is to take a bus from Arcos to Jerez, then switch to a train. Rome2Rio.com says buses are run by Comes and Bahia de Cadiz. I didn't drill down to try to find the schedules online. You should not trust the travel times, frequencies or fares shown by Rome2Rio; those often seem to be works of fiction.

Rome2Rio also shows some all-bus routes between Arcos and Seville. Again, you'll need to track down the company websites for reliable schedule information.

Nan,

You can take the Comes Bus from Ronda to Arcos de la Frontera. As Acraven has mentioned, there are only two buses (9:30am and 4pm) Monday- Friday and one bus Sat & Sun. Journey time is about 2 hours.

The bus station is on the outskirts of Granada, so you'll need to take a city bus, or a taxi. We took a taxi for convenience and it was only €8 ( back in 2015)

There used to be a Los Amarillos bus traveling to/from Arcos de la Frontera to/from Sevilla, but unfortunately, that route has been suspended.

I did a bit of research... I found out that there's a DAMAS Bus that has added a new route which includes Arcos de la Frontera to Sevilla.
It looks like there are only two buses per day; 7am and 4pm, and the journey time is 2 hours.

Keep in mind that you cannot buy Comes Bus tickets (Ronda to Arcos) for more than a couple of weeks in advance.
However, it appears that one is able to buy Damas Bus tickets a few weeks in advance.

Another option would be to take a local bus from Arcos to Jerez, then the train to Sevilla. This would probably take longer than the direct Damas bus, but I've not searched the time difference.

Hope this helps!

Enjoy your time in beautiful Spain!
