Travel from Cordoba to Lagos, Portugal

My wife and I will be in Spain in October and November, and we are planning a five-day trip to visit friends who live in Lagos, Portugal. We will be departing by train from Cordoba to Sevilla on Nov. 2nd, then taking a bus direct from Sevilla to Lagos the same day. That means we need to be sure the timing will work smoothly to complete our trip in one day.

Both the Alsa and the Flix buses to Lagos leave Sevilla around noon, so we want to arrive in Sevilla by around 10:30 am in order to have plenty of time to get from the Santa Justa train station to the Plaza de Armas bus station.

At this point, we have a preference to use the Alsa bus line, because we’ve had some troubles with Flix in the U.S. However, Alsa is currently only offering tickets up through the end of September, while Flix is already selling tickets for our November travel dates. To get Alsa tickets, we may have to wait several weeks to make our purchase.

The Trainline website has AVE tickets from Cordoba to Sevilla on sale now for the 9:49 am AVE train on Nov. 2nd, but the website says “only 9 are left.”

So our questions are these:
* Is there any difference in quality or schedule reliability between Flix and Alsa buses?
* Should we buy our AVE tickets now, because Trainline says they have only 9 tickets left for our preferred train, or are they likely to offer additional tickets once those have been sold?

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have to offer,
Will and Kristine

If I am reading it right, Alsa has a bus from Cordoba to Sevilla on Nov 2 that
leaves at 9am and gets to Plaza de Armas at 11:05am.

The bus is cheaper (5 EUR) and yes, it is longer, but it goes right to the same
bus station you want to leave for Lagos from.

If you chose to take the bus, it would probably make sense to buy a single
ticket on Alsa Cordoba->Lagos, but as you note, the Lagos tickets aren't on
sale yet.

If I check a few weeks earlier, though, Alsa also sells a ticket from Santa Justa
to Lagos, so you could take the train to Seville and not have to transfer across
town to the bus station. Assumes the Nov schedule is the same as the Sept
schedule.

Hello, I live in Seville. If you don't plan to visit Seville, the easiest thing is to take the Alsa bus from Cordoba.
PROS
- In Seville you don't have to go from the train station (Santa Justa) to the bus station (Plaza de Armas). By taxi, about 15 euros.
- No stress, no train reservation, no getting on and off the train, no searching for a bus.

CONS
- The bus trip is approximately 1.5 hours longer (seville-cordoba by bus)

I don't know FLix. Alsa is a serious company and usually works well. November is not a very touristy month here, I don't think you will have a problem finding bus tickets. We Spaniards travel a lot in summer, but not in November, it is normal that there are tickets. What I don't know is if Alsa eliminates the line in the summer from Cordoba, which could also be the case.
In short, if you are not going to visit Seville ( You sohould :-) )go from Cordoba on Alsa.
