I'm trying to find a bus to get from Benicarlo or Peniscola or Valencia to Marbella. Or a direct flight. Or a train. It all seems to be sending me to Madrid and then a 12 hour layover. Does anyone know a way to just travel down the coast reasonably if I don't want to rent a car?

Malaga is served by train but Marbella is not. The best connections from Benicarlo to Malaga, for instance, take 9 hours with one connection, either at Barcelona or Cordoba. From Valencia to Malaga can be as fast as 4 hours with a connection at Cordoba. How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it.
There are several different bus companies in Spain, but you can usually do a Google search for your route, such as "Benicarlo Marbella bus." From Malaga (airport or city) to Marbella, bus service is by portillo.avanzabus.com.
