Travel from Barcelona to Ribera del Duero to Madrid

Considering a visit to the wine region in May 2019. Planning on flying into Barcelona and exploring whether traveling from there to the Ribera del Duero area makes sense OR if we're better off doing the high speed train to Madrid and then traveling from there.

So, other questions are whether we should train to Logrono and rent a car there to drop off in Madrid or is there better options? And, where are the best towns to stay in for 2 nights to get a sense of the area and visit wineries.

Thanks!

If you end up getting to Logrono, it's worth going on to the hill town of Laguardia. It's very atmospheric and has several wine bars. The larger city of Burgos is very attractive; it's on the way from Logrono to Valladolid.

Use ViaMichelin.com to explore routings and driving times between your target area and both Barcelona and Madrid. I haven't driven in Spain, but it's my observation that a lof of the scenery around Madrid is very unexceptional, for what that's worth.
