Can someone tell me the best way to get from Atocha Train Station to Barajas International Airport. Our flight is 11 AM going back to the USA. Two years ago we took a terrifying taxi ride and almost missed our flight due to traffic and taxi being late for our pick up.

You can take the subway from the Atocha station right to the airport. You'll need to change subway lines a couple times. Atocha - Cuatro Camino's - Nuevos Ministerios - airport.

Most direct is the C-1 Cercanias train , Atocha to Barajas , look here - http://www.renfe.com/viajeros/cercanias/planos/madrid.html

We took the Cercanías train from Puerta de Atocha train station to the Barajas Airport (Terminal 4).
Travel time is around 25 minutes.
You should be at the airport around 3 hours prior to your departure.
