I can't seem to find any available trains from Madrid to Toledo the end of June. Completely booked every day! Do I skip Toledo or are there other options? A day trip is all I ask.
You can use the bus, but perhaps part of the problem is the choice of stations you are searching on the schedule, or your June dates. Summer schedules start June 15 and may not be posted yet. Depending on the train, they may be posted 90, 60 or 30 days ahead. They should be posted no less than 30 days ahead.
Often the recommendation here, for planning purposes, is to check the train times on a date closer to today....say May 30...to see what the times are.
Pre pandemic, it was feasible to book only a day or so ahead....even the day of travel, but sometime the later trains back to Madrid would sell out to other daytrippers.
Don't write off Toledo just yet.
You are both such smarties! I was just thinking they were all booked.
The train shouldn't be a problem if you get tickets just a bit ahead of time. The bus is fine (actually delivers you to a point in the lower town that's closer to the escalators to the medieval center), but it's a lot slower than the speedy train, so I'd recommend the train if at all possible. There's a lot to see in Toledo, so it's a shame to spend considerable extra time that day sitting on a bus.
Check your local transportation options from the train station up to the historic center. There must be public buses in addition to the little tourist "train"; the latter will be more expensive, but I remember earlier posts noting that the tourist train makes a stop at a very good viewpoint outside the center that's great for photos. I assume the distance from the RR station to the center is walkable (it wasn't a problem for me from the closer bus station, and I was pulling a suitcase), but again--there's a lot to see in Toledo. The medieval center is very atmospheric.
They just haven't released the June tickets yet I am pretty sure. I would try again. It isn't that they are all booked.
I bought my roundtrip tickets from Madrid to Toledo 2 days ago for dates in early-mid June on Renfe. Just keep on checking every day, they'll show up at some point (possibly mid-late May, at the latest 30 days from date of travel).
