Transportation Help Please!

I’ve read many posts here and still having trouble with travel between Madrid and Seville. We arrive from the US at 730 am on 3.22 and plan to go to Seville for 4 nights, then back to Madrid for 3 nights. I am having trouble on the Renfe website differentiating tickets. I’ve reviewed the “Epic Guide to Train Travel In Spain” and played with Renfe site for hours! However, please advise: I am finding the AVE train for 4 people is only about $200 less than airfare via Iberia. Does this sound right? I thought train travel was more affordable?

We also want to visit Cordoba for a day within our itinerary. Please help me, I’m at my wits end! Thank you in advance for the expertise! I haven’t encountered this problem visiting other countries.

I see a train leaving Madrid around noon for 122 Euro total that day. What’s the amount you’ve found?

I bought several train tickets for our trip last year. When you’re ready to purchase, use PayPal. Renfe doesn’t work well with American credit cards.

It all depends on the dates, sometimes is cheaper, sometimes is not. Train travel on high-speed trains is affordable, but it's not dirt cheap. Travelling on regional or commuting trains is cheap, but those are of little use to you in most cases -unless you're doing day escapades from a base city.

For an much easier way to reserve trains tickets, go to “www.loco2.com”. The fares are in British £, but is comparable to that of Renfe.
