My wife and I are joining a RS Basque Country Tour in September. We're spending time in Madrid the week before the tour, then traveling to Bayonne the day the tour starts. I've booked the train from Madrid to San Sebastian, and planned to take the train from San Sebastian to Hendaye, then from Hendaye to Bayonne. Rome2Rio shows info on both trains, but has no link to buy tickets for the San Sebastian to Hendaye leg of the trip. The Trainline says there's no way to take the train, and instead shows bus options via Flixbus and BlaBlaCar bus. It also looks like taxi or ride share options exist but are expensive. Is there construction or something else happening that will prevent rail travel between San Sebastian and Hendaye in September? I've also looked at the Renfe and Euskotren sites, and neither shows availability of a direct train from San Sebastian to Hendaye on our date of travel. Would the bus be our best alternative? If we take a bus, what bus line is it best to take? Thanks!
It´s a commuter train that runs all day...you do not make reservations for commuter trains, just buy the ticket the day of your arrival and get on the train. Extremely easy.
Mikel, thanks so much for the info. I had gone to the Euskotren website and tried their Schedule Search, but it came back with a response that there were no results for that origin, destination and date-time combination. Should I assume that's just a glitch in their system? I see from their printed schedule that trains run every half hour. From the central train/bus station, where would I need to get to in order to catch the Euskotren E2 line towards Hendaia? Is the Anoeta station (approx. 2k walk from the main train station) the closest stop? Thanks! I really appreciate the help.
