Transportation from Puerta del Sol to Barajas

Anyone have suggestions on the best transportation to get from Puerta del Sol to Barajas Airport?
It seems like a taxi would be 30 euros, flat rate, so the metro seems more tempting and budget friendly. Is this a pretty easy route?
I was last in Madrid 4 years ago with a study abroad group and we took a bus, so trying to get all my options!

Thank you.

Very easy route. Take the metro if you are not in a hurry and are able to carry your luggage down stairs For a ticket you will pay € 5.00 including € 3.00 airport surcharge. Maybe if you are a group it is cheaper to split a taxi

Returned from Madrid on June 2. Metro to terminal 1 was 5€. From Puerta del Sol (line 2) go to the Principe de Vergara stop. Switch lines (line 9) and go to the Colombia stop. Switch lines (line 8) and go to the terminal stop you need. Our flight departed from terminal 1. From Puerta del Sol to the terminal was between 35-40 minutes. Once in the terminal it's a fair walk to get to the check-in counter.

We just did this yesterday. Sol to T4. It was fine, but allot an hour bc you do need to change lines twice. We took 1 > 6 > 8. It was a lot of walking and up and down stairs, so take that into consideration. We were a family of five and would have taken a taxi, but didn't want to bother trying to find one to fit us at 7am.

Also, do allot more time than usual to actually be at the airport. We checked in at T4, but then had to ride another shuttle to out gate, which tacked on an extra 15 minutes. Don't cut it close.

RS mentions the Aerobus, but I couldn't get clear info on that and I understand it only leaves from Plaza de Cibeles or Atocha, which were further than the 2 minute walk we had to the Sol Metro stop, so didn't seem worth it.
